What Trailing Plants Do We Carry?
Our trailing selection changes as new stock arrives, but a few categories are almost always on the floor.
- Pothos and Epipremnum: Golden Pothos remains one of the most reliable beginner plants we stock. It tolerates lower light, bounces back from missed waterings, and produces long, draping vines quickly. Browse the pothos collection to see what is currently available.
- Scindapsus: We currently carry six Scindapsus varieties, including Scindapsus Treubii, Silver, Exotica, Jade, and Tattoo. These are collector-grade trailing aroids with velvety or silvery foliage that looks striking in a hanging basket or trailing from a high shelf. Note that Scindapsus is toxic to cats and dogs, so placement matters if you share your home with pets.
- Hoya: Slow-growing but rewarding, Hoya vines are waxy, drought-tolerant, and occasionally bloom indoors. Check the Hoya shop page for current varieties.
- String of Hearts and other delicate trailers: When available, these romantic, fine-vined plants are perennial favourites for shelves and window rails.
Matching the Right Plant to Your Light
Port Elgin homes often have bright west- or south-facing windows thanks to the open lakeside exposure, but interior rooms can be considerably dimmer. Here is a rough guide:
- Bright indirect light (near a window, no direct sun on the leaves): Scindapsus Exotica, Hoya, and most Epipremnum varieties do well here.
- Medium light (a few metres from a window): Golden Pothos, Scindapsus Silver, and Scindapsus Jade are reliable choices.

This is worth flagging clearly: many popular trailing plants are toxic to cats and dogs. Scindapsus, Pothos, and Philodendron all contain calcium oxalate crystals that cause mouth irritation, drooling, and digestive upset if chewed. If you have curious pets, consider placing trailing plants well out of reach, or browse our pet-safe collection for non-toxic alternatives that still trail beautifully. If you ever suspect your pet has chewed a toxic plant, contact your veterinarian or nearest emergency animal hospital right away.
