What Makes a True Low-Light Plant
"Low light" does not mean no light. It means a plant that grows well several feet from a window, or in a room with indirect or filtered light for most of the day. True low-light plants have adapted to thrive under a forest canopy, which means they are forgiving of the shadier spots most homes actually have. They tend to be slower growers, which also makes them easier to manage for busy households or first-time plant parents.
Low-Light Plants We Currently Stock
Our inventory is curated for real Canadian homes, not just greenhouse conditions. Here are two reliable low-light genera we carry right now:
- Sansevieria (Snake Plant): One of the most forgiving houseplants available. We carry several varieties, including Sansevieria Moonshine, Sansevieria Laurentii, and Sansevieria Hahnii, among others. They handle low light, infrequent watering, and dry indoor air with ease. Note that Sansevieria is toxic to cats and dogs, so keep it out of reach of curious pets. - Aglaonema (Chinese Evergreen): A classic low-light aroid with patterned foliage that adds colour even in dim rooms. We currently carry Aglaonema Spring and Aglaonema Black. Like Sansevieria, Aglaonema is toxic to pets, so placement matters if you share your home with animals.

Ordering Online: What to Know
If the drive does not work for you, we ship live plants across Canada. A few things to keep in mind:
- Orders ship on Mondays only, so plants never sit in a depot over a weekend.
- During colder months, we include heat packs to protect plants in transit.
- We do not ship to Northwest Territories or Nunavut, and Yukon is paused during the winter months.

Choosing the Right Spot at Home
Even low-light plants have a threshold. Before you buy, take a look at the room you have in mind:
- A north-facing window with no obstructions is genuinely low light and suits Sansevieria and Aglaonema well.
- A room with a window but no direct sun is medium-low light, which opens up even more options.
- A windowless interior room is very low light; even the toughest plants will struggle there long-term without a grow light.

Pet Safety and Low-Light Plants
It is worth noting that some of the most popular low-light plants, including both Sansevieria and Aglaonema, are toxic to cats and dogs. If you have pets, placement on a high shelf or in a room they do not access is the simplest solution. We also carry a curated selection of pet-safe plants if you would prefer to avoid the concern entirely.
