What We Currently Stock for Pet-Safe Shoppers
Our live inventory changes regularly, but right now we carry several excellent options for homes with pets:
- Calathea Rattlesnake, Ornata Pinstripe, Northern Lights, Makoyana, Orbifolia, and Roseopicta (six varieties in stock): Calatheas are bold, patterned prayer plants that thrive in medium to bright indirect light. They are curated as pet-safe and are among the most visually striking plants you can keep in a pet-friendly home.
- Maranta Lemon Lime: A close relative of Calathea, Maranta folds its leaves upward at night in a movement called nyctinasty. It does well in medium light and is curated as pet-safe.

Getting to Us from Walkerton
My Jungle Roots is located in Hanover, Ontario, which puts us about a 30-60 minute drive from Walkerton. If you are already planning a trip to Hanover, you are welcome to browse in person and leave with your plant the same day.
Ordering Online Across Canada
If the drive does not work for you, we ship live plants every Monday across Canada. Shipping on Mondays means your plant never sits in a depot over a weekend, which matters a great deal in the colder months. During winter, we include heat packs to protect plants in transit. Tips for Choosing the Right Pet-Safe Plant
Once you have narrowed your search to pet-safe options, a few practical questions help you choose well:
- How much light does your space get? Calathea and Maranta both prefer medium to bright indirect light. A north- or east-facing window is a reliable starting point.
- How consistent are you with watering? Both genera appreciate evenly moist soil and higher humidity. If your home is dry in winter, a small humidifier or a pebble tray with water nearby helps.
- Do you have pets that chew, or pets that mostly ignore plants? Even a pet-safe plant can cause mild stomach upset if eaten in large quantities. Placing plants on higher shelves or in rooms your pet does not access freely is always a sensible precaution.
